Mayor honors Demolition for championship

News ImageDETROIT — Politics aside, Kwame Kilpatrick knows something about football, too. So it was only fitting that the mayor of Detroit, a former high school and college football player, honor the Detroit Demolition of the Independent Women’s Football League in a brief ceremony celebrating the team’s IWFL championship.

Detroit, which had their string of women’s championships ended by the Atlanta Xplosion last year, beat that same team 17-7, in Atlanta under sweltering heat to add to their collection of championships. The Demolition have won five women’s football titles since the team’s inception in 2002. Detroit has competed in every women’s championship game since that year.
